2009 Bella Rosa Kumeu NEW RELEASE
This Rose wine is a new wine for us. Made from our famous Pinotage grapes, the juice was allowed to spend a few hours in contact with the skins before the it was pressed off for fermentation. This enabled the juice to pick up a delicate rose petal pink colour. It is very difficult to judge this amount of time for skin contact. If contact is too long the wine is too dark. If too short the colour is too light. Add some red wine I hear you say, the problem with this is you also add back tannin, which makes this gentle wine hard on the palate. We feel we got this skin contact time spot on!
A delicate light salmon pink in colour, with the bouquet of rose petals, watermelon and
strawberries and cream, and a hint of mandarin on the finish. Just a touch of sweetness.
SERVE CHILLED. This wine fills your mouth with pleasure.

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Kumeu
Grapes harvested April 2006.
This Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on our home vineyard at Kumeu. Hand and foot plunged 4 times per day during fermentation, the wine was macerated (held on the skins ) for 10 days after fermentation to maximise extraction of tannins and fruit flavours. Only light pressings were taken, and following the malo-lactic fermentation the wine was aged for 11 months in a combination of both new and 2 year old French and American oak barriques.
The resulting wine is bright crimson red colour; wild cherry berry, peppery characters dominate the nose. There is also an under-layer of earthiness, and those characters follow through on to the palate. The soft fruit tannins along with the finely intergrated oak and balanced structure make for a harmonius wine offering complex fruit and oak characters. The mid palate is warm, rich and sweet, the finish long and savoury.
Enjoy our Cabernet Sauvignon with red meats, cheeses and big buxom breads etc. Drinking well now. This wine will develop more complexities with age.
